Frequently Asked Questions:

Are you independent?

Absolutely.

How are you funded?

All funding comes from advertising, premium subscriptions and merch sales. Meaning no outside investors have a say over our editorial process.

Who runs CONTX Media?

CONTX Media is run by the founder Zac Whelan. He has a keen eye and passion for politically unbiased news and all things innovation.

What is your political alignment?

None, what’s so ever. Steering clear of all things politics is one of our main missions as a publication. If you’re after politically tainted, brainwashing content, look elsewhere.

What is your editorial policy?

Being an Australian-founded publication, we pride ourselves on being impartial and transparent in all of our reporting. CONTX Media is read by young people from all across the world looking for access to premium science, technology and innovation content.

Similar to many other Australian-founded publications, CONTX Media abides by the General Principles as established by the Australian Press Council (APC).

Accuracy and clarity

  • Ensure that factual material in news reports and elsewhere is accurate and not misleading, and is distinguishable from other material such as opinion.
  • Provide a correction or other adequate remedial action if published material is significantly inaccurate or misleading.

 Fairness and balance

  • Ensure that factual material is presented with reasonable fairness and balance and that writers’ expressions of opinion are not based on significantly inaccurate factual material or omission of key facts.
  • Ensure that where material refers adversely to a person, a fair opportunity is given for subsequent publication of a reply if that is reasonably necessary to address a possible breach of General Principle 3.

Privacy and avoidance of harm

  • Avoid intruding on a person’s reasonable expectations of privacy, unless doing so is sufficiently in the public interest.
  • Avoid causing or contributing materially to substantial offence, distress or prejudice, or a substantial risk to health or safety, unless doing so is sufficiently in the public interest.

Integrity and transparency

  • Avoid publishing material which has been gathered by deceptive or unfair means, unless doing so is sufficiently in the public interest.
  • Ensure that conflicts of interest are avoided or adequately disclosed and that they do not influence published material.

How do you decide what to publish?

To ensure high-quality journalism, we instruct our journalists to follow our simple INNOVATE framework when seeking out new stories. Our approach is to uncover unique and compelling perspectives that larger publications may have overlooked.

The framework consists of 8 questions:

I - is the story ‘INNOVATIVE’?

N - is the story ‘NOVEL’?

N - is the story ‘NUANCED’?

O - is the story ‘ORIGINAL’?

V - is the story ‘VIVACIOUS’?

A - is the story ‘APPLICABLE’?

T - is the story ‘TRANSPARENT’?

E - is the story ‘EQUITABLE’?

Stories that don't meet the majority of these criteria are unlikely to be covered by us.
